I found this on a Moz post about 404 link building. Credit goes to Jon Cooper in the comments section. I think it’s a very simple & solid pitch for any 404 link building strategy:

    Hi!

I just stumbled across a few broken links on the website, and I didn’t know who to notify. Do you think you could help me out?

    Thanks :)

    *Name*,

    *Company*

Do you guys have any templates/pitch advice?

Nice share @xSEOxNinja I really like Jon’s pitch. I think the question:

“Do you think you could help me out?”

could be ambiguous to some webmasters. Maybe something along the lines of:

“I found an updated version for this broken link and wanted to get it to the right person.”
